Dear Families,
The health and safety of our students and staff remain our top priority. During the summer we have been working hard to ensure that we can create an environment that is both safe and educationally sound for all of our students and staff.   A few weeks ago we shared with you the Blended Learning Model our school will follow. This decision was made based on what you indicated on the survey while taking into consideration a myriad of other factors. Today, we are writing to share some updates with you as you begin to plan ahead for the upcoming school year.
We have selected Model 1B (please see image below) as outlined in our Re-opening plan. Students will be divided into 3 cohorts. Cohorts A and B will receive blended instruction while Cohort D will engage in 100% remote learning. The blended learning schedule for the 2020-2021school year is as follows:
Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | |
Week 1 | Cohort A | Cohort A | Cohort  A | Cohort B | Cohort B |
Week 2 | Cohort B | Cohort A | Cohort A | Cohort B | Cohort B |
Week 3 | Cohort A | Cohort A | Cohort A | Cohort B | Cohort B |
Week 4 | Cohort B | Cohort A | Cohort A | Cohort B | Cohort B |
- Cohort A- students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Cohort A will report to the school building every Tuesday and Wednesday and on alternate Mondays. Cohort A will attend remote classes on Thursdays and Fridays and on alternate Mondays.
- Cohort B will consist of students in grades Pre-K, K, 1st, and 2nd. Cohort B will meet every Thursday and Friday and on alternate Mondays. Cohort B will attend remote classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and on alternate Mondays.
- Cohort D- 100% remote instruction (Monday-Friday)
Our school day will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Arrival and dismissal will take place in the schoolyard daily. Please note, students will line up on their designated days in the schoolyard at 8:30 a.m. and all students must be picked up promptly at 2 pm. Students must practice social distancing and will be required to wear their masks at all times, except when eating or drinking. As in previous years, students will have breakfast in the classroom. This year, students will also eat a bagged lunch in the classroom. There will be opportunities for students to take ‘brain breaks’ and engage in movement activities such as dance and physical education.
As a gentle reminder, families should continue to discuss with their children the importance of the following the specific measures outlined below in order to ensure their safety as well as the safety of others:
- Consistent with Executive Order 202.17: all people over the age of two who can medically tolerate a face covering must wear one when they are outside their home if they cannot maintain physical distance from others. The DOE will supply masks and other PPE to all schools. Free face coverings are also available at DOE Meal Hubs in all five boroughs—you can find one close to you on the DOE website.
- Physical distancing and good hygiene remain critical, even while wearing a face covering.
- Parents should remind children of the importance of frequently washing their hands with soap and water and using hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
As the school year gets underway, your child’s teacher will share a detailed flow of each day (whether in person or remote) along with the Google Classroom links for live, synchronous instruction. Lastly, we understand that there are families with children in multiple grades within our school. If you require special accommodations due to your work schedule, please reach out to Ms. Davis, Parent Coordinator, for assistance.
We thank you in advance for your patience and support as we embark on this new chapter of learning together.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][thim-carousel-posts cat_id=”9″ number_posts=”4″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
